How can Coffee prevent Liver Damage

A lot of research is done about the adverse effects of caffeine on the body including insomnia, aggravated irritable bowel syndrome, palpitations, restlessness, and even addictions. However, further studies have also proven coffee to be beneficial when it is consumed moderately. After decades of research, various aspects of coffee has been brought into the light.

Coffee not only makes you smarter, but it also lowers the risk of many chronic and terminal illnesses. Coffee is especially very good for your liver.  Liver carries out very important functions in the body. Too much diet, sweets, and alcohol can damage the liver, cause cirrhosis. Cirrhosis kills more than one million people every year worldwide. Another study also found a stronger link between coffee consumption and reduced cirrhosis risk with filtered coffee than with boiled coffee. Hence, a cup or two of coffee a day will cause no harm.

Coffee Benefits on Liver

  • Protection from Liver fibrosis – scar tissue that builds up within the liver.
  • Prevention of chronic liver disease.
  • Prevention of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
  • Prevention of Hepatitis C.
  • May also reduce the risk of liver cancer.

In the research, overall, drinking coffee has been associated with up to a 40% reduced risk of liver cancer compared to those who do not drink coffee. That’s a significant amount of number that gives you hope and reason to grab a cup of hot coffee. However, coffee along cannot reduce the liver damage, nor it can undo the earlier liver damage. A healthy diet with a lot of fruits and vegetables, an active lifestyle, and taking the right supplements along with the coffee, can surely help the liver to perform its duties efficiently.
