How a Low Carb Diet Can Help Regulate Your Blood Sugar Levels?

Diabetes is one of the most devastating diseases in effect today. It is a chronic disease that prevents the boy from producing or utilizing insulin properly, and over 400 million people are affected by this disease around the world. The disease can be complicated and, in some cases, very difficult to manage, but for the most part the disease can be regulated and its complications greatly reduced.

One of the best methods for regulating diabetes is to achieve improved blood glucose levels by switching to a low carb diet.

The Role of Food and Diabetes

Diabetes is essentially what happens when the human body cannot process carbohydrates effectively. Carbs are typically broken down into glucose which becomes blood sugar. When blood glucose levels increase, the pancreas responds by producing insulin, a compound that lets blood sugar enter the cells. When this process fails, either due to the pancreas not producing enough insulin or your cells resisting the effects of insulin.

Carbohydrates have the largest impact on blood glucose levels, so excluding carbohydrates or reducing the amount of carbs in your diet can have a great positive effect on diabetes. A study involving type-2 diabetic patients found that patients who switched to a low carb diet for 6 months saw insignificant improvements in their blood glucose levels.

A low carb diet doesn’t necessarily mean giving up all of the bread and grains. You can still eat carbs – they just have to be from whole grains. Whole grains are filled with dietary fiber which doesn’t count towards your total carb intake. This means you can fill satiated from eating whole carbs without them negatively affecting your blood glucose levels. Try eating whole wheat bread, rye bread, oatmeal, and other whole grains.
