Here’s What You Can Eat to Feel Better When You Have Hay Fever

Hay fever, more commonly known as, seasonal allergy symptom, can be one of the more annoying things to deal with. Although it is season and normally only occurs during the spring or summer, it is still worth learning how to reduce the symptoms.

Typically, hay fever is a result of the immune system overreacting to allergens that have invaded the body, like plant pollen. This will cause lots of irritating symptoms, like congestion, sneezing, and itching.

Conventional treatment for seasonal allergy symptoms normally involves over the counter medicines; in extreme cases, doctors will prescribe medicines. But you can also make some lifestyle and dietary changes to decrease and manage your symptoms. Below is a list of foods to experiment with to resist your hay fever.

Best foods to treat hay fever

  1. Ginger
Ginger is a truly magical herb when it comes to treating inflammatory issues of all kinds. It is especially great for handling the symptoms of hay fever, which are caused by inflammation such as, swelling of the nasal passages, throat, and eyes.
  2. Bee pollen
Most people have heard some variant of this treatment. Eating local honey or bee pollen, can help introduce your body to the local strains of pollen. It functions similarly to a flu shot. Bee pollen is also a naturally occurring anti-inflammatory which can also work to reduce some hay fever symptoms.
  3. Citrus fruits
Vitamin C won’t automatically make you feel better, but it will bolster your immune system, and has been shown to decrease some of the symptoms caused by hay fever.
  4. Turmeric
Turmeric is quite possibly the best naturally occurring anti-inflammatory thanks to its active ingredient, curcumin. Including it in your food will go a long way towards reducing your hay fever symptoms.
