Here’s What You Can Eat to Ease the Pain During Menstrual Cycle

A woman’s menstrual cycle can be the source of endless frustration and pain, especially when it comes to dealing with menstrual cramps. It can literally affect her ability to handle her affairs. And sometimes Tylenol, Motrin, Advil, whatever your favorite pain killer is at the moment, isn’t enough to make her feel well enough to carry on. The reason that you should avoid relying on these medicines as your sole source of pain relief is that there is just a better way. No matter how effective these medicines are, they will eventually be metabolized, and their effects will wear off. That is why women should begin tackling menstrual pain with their diet. You can consistently be eating the foods that provide you pain relief and won’t have to worry that their effect wears off halfway through the day.

Best Foods to Help You Handle Menstrual Pain

Drink Lots of H2O – Stay Hydrated

The first step to gaining some relief from your menstrual pain is to stay hydrated. Don’t wait for your period to start drinking water – though please drink some if you haven’t been – make sure you are always hydrated. If your body lacks water it will spend more effort retaining water which will worsen menstrual cramps.

Eat Salmon

Fish are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These healthy fats help to reduce inflammation and act as a natural pain reliever. The vitamin D content in fish also helps with calcium absorption, which is another thing that makes period pain more manageable.

Eat Dark Leafy Green Veggies

Whenever you lose blood, you lose iron. Iron loss is one step away from anemia, and its symptoms of fatigue, lightheadedness, and lethargy. Try eating some kale or spinach to get that iron boost during your period.
