Sleep apnea is a disorder which is known to affect sleep quality and occurs due to pauses that occur in breathing. People who suffer from sleep apnea are not able to take up enough oxygen. This causes them to gasp for breath and wake up. Such people are usually unaware that they have stopped breathing and consider that their sleep cycle is normal. Sleep apnea is often considered similar to snoring.

Sleep apnea can be a cause of numerous health problems. It leaves you tired in the morning and if it is not treated it can increase the risk of heart failure. It can also lead to memory loss and can increase problems relating to mental health. It can also cause poor functioning of the immune system. Common treatments for sleep apnea are medication, breathing devices, and surgery. With some lifestyle changes and home remedies, you can improve the quality of your sleep.

Home Remedies for relief from sleep apnea

  • Yoga: Regular exercise can strengthen the heart and help provide relief in slew apnea. Yoga improves the strength of the respiratory system and encourages the flow of oxygen so practice yoga regularly.
  • Maintain a healthy weight. Obesity increases the risk of breathing problems. Aways maintain a healthy weight to reduce apnea.
  • Sleep position: After your sleeping position. This can reduce the symptoms of sleep apnea. Sleeping on your back can worsen slew apnea. It will block airways and increase snoring. Sleeping on your side can help reduce sleep apnea. Always discuss with your doctor who will guide you about your best sleeping position.
  • Avoid smoking and alcohol. Limit the intake of alcohol to reduce sleep apnea. Alcohol causes the throat muscles to relax which leads to snoring. Alcohol causes inflammation in the airways. Similarly, tobacco causes inflammation and swelling in the airways.
