Have You Heard of Bullet-Proof Coffee?

Bulletproof coffee is not a coffee brand, it is a coffee preparation method that turns your cup of freshly brewed coffee into something between a latte and an egg nog (without the rum). The drink is stated to have some pretty significant effects on your energy levels and cognitive functionality. It is meant to actually replace or at the very least supplement your breakfast, not in an attempt to help you lose weight, but in order to get you pumped and awake more efficiently in the morning.

Essentially, the primary goal of drinking bullet-proof coffee is to help you make it to mid-morning without experience the crash in your blood glucose levels that would occur if you ate some of the more traditional breakfast foods.

There are 3 things that bullet-proof coffee does for you better than anything else available in the morning:

  • Suppresses Hunger
Bulletproof coffee has the ability to balance the hunger hormones, CCK and ghrelin, which will keep you satiated until lunch time.
  • Provides Steady and Lasting Energy
The butter or ghee’s saturated fat content reduces the rate your body can absorb caffeine. This helps to lessen the impact of your typical caffeine spike and crash by extending the period that your body is metabolizing caffeine.
  • Achieves Mental Clarity
The ingredients in bullet coffee can rapidly be converted into ketones. Your brain will use the ketones molecules for energy more efficiently than sugar or carbs.

How to Prepare Your Own Bullet-proof Coffee

It is actually pretty simple to prepare a cup of bulletproof joe, just use the recipe below.

  • Brew 1 cup (8-12 oz) of coffee.
    • Combine 2 ½ tbsps. of freshly ground coffee beans with filtered water.
  • Note: Use a French Press for ease of use and to preserve beneficial coffee oils that paper filters keep out.
  • Add 1 tsp – 2 tbsps. of either MCT oil or Coconut Oil.
  • Note: Begin using 1 tsp per cup, then work your way up to 1-2 tbsps. over the course of several days.
  • Add 1-2 tbsps. of grass-fed, unsalted, butter or 1-2 tsps. of grass-fed ghee (for people with a dairy intolerance).
  • Mix all the ingredients together in a blender for 20-30 seconds until it looks like a foamy latte.
