Get Rid of Itchy Scalp with These Simple Home Remedies

Everybody suffers from an itchy scalp once in a while. Itchiness in your scalp is generally caused by bacterial infections or a lack of moisture. You don’t have to go to the doctor just to fix an itchy scalp though. Just try some of these common home remedies listed below.

Baking Soda

The itchiness in your hair is most often caused by outside factors like, bacteria and environmental irritants. That is where baking soda comes into play. It has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that can kill the bacteria that are the cause of infections and subsequent itchiness. It is easy to apply the baking soda, simply mix 2-3 tbsp of baking soda in a bowl of water. Mix it until you get a nice paste and then spread the paste over your scalp. Let it sit on your scalp for 10-15 minutes then rinse your hair off with shampoo.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is another anti-inflammatory that helps to protect your skin and heal the itchiness that infects your scalp. It is easy to apply it to your scalp. Simply heat up some organic olive oil to the point that it is warm (not boiling!) and rub it into your scalp. Wrap your head up and let it sit in your hair overnight before rinsing it out in the morning. Repeat this method until you see results.

Tea Tree oil

Tea tree oil is great for moisturizing and nourishing your scalp. It also has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Simply apply this oil to your shampoo or directly to your scalp. Sprinkle 5-7 drops onto your head and massage it into your scalp; leave it overnight before rinsing it out in the morning.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has anti-fungal properties that treat itchiness and combat fungal infections. It also nourishes your hair and leaves it with a healthy sheen by balancing the moisture in your hair. Simply rub the coconut oil between your hands to warm it up then massage it into your scalp.  Let it sit for 10-15 minutes or overnight.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera acts as a natural moisturizer which is great for treating an itchy scalp. It has the ability to soothe the itchiness and irritability caused by having a dry scalp. Apply it to your scalp and leave it in for 15-20 minutes before rinsing it out with lukewarm water. Repeat twice a week.
