FDA Warns Against the Safety of Teething Jewelry: Here’s What You Can Use from Your Kitchen as Teething Remedy

FDA is now warning against the dangers of using teething jewelry to help your toddler get through their teething period. They can end up becoming choking hazards for your baby. Teething jewelry is also not as effective at providing pain relief as some of the food alternatives below.

Teething Biscuits

Biscuits really are one of the best things for your teething child. They are not only a delicious snack that will provide them with a decent amount of nutrition, but they are also hard enough to chew on. The biscuit can be a cookie, cracker, roll of hard bread; it just needs to be able to dissolve quickly and large enough to avoid becoming a choking hazard. You can buy teething biscuits in many stores or make your own by blending 1 ripe banana, 2 tbsps coconut oil, and 2 cups oat flour. Mold the dough into the shape you find most suitable for your child then bake it at 350 F for 10 minutes on each side.

Vegetables

If you don’t have time to teething biscuits then any hard or firm vegetable will typically do. Cruciferous vegetables, like carrots, celery sticks, broccoli stocks, and cucumbers are very good for this. Chill them in the refrigerator and they will serve an extra function of providing relief for sore gums as your child gnaws on them. Just make sure to peel the vegetables and monitor your child closely while they chew on them.

Popsicles or Fruit Slushies

In general, ice makes for a great chewing device for your teething toddler. It naturally melts in the mouth which stops it from being a choking hazard, and it provides relief to sore and aching gums. Try purchasing popsicles or fruit slushes from the store. You can also make your own by blending your favorite fruits and freezing them in the freezer.
