Eat Healthy: How Sweet Potatoes Help in Weight Loss

Do you find yourself struggling to lose weight but not being able to say no to the dreaded carbs? Don’t worry you’re not alone – this is a common problem for many people. And there is a solution. Give up your potatoes and carbohydrate-heavy foods and replace them with sweet potatoes! The sweet potato diet helps you to satisfy your carb cravings and lose weight at the same time.

What’s a Sweet Potato Diet?

Sweet potato diet is basically incorporating sweet potatoes into your regular diet. You do not just eat sweet potatoes, but you supplement your carb intake with sweet potatoes while consuming other fat burning foods, like veggies, yogurt, and nuts.

Why it Works

  1. Low in Calories
Sweet potatoes are low calorie foods. Just 100 grams has around 86 calories. This adds up to about 100 calories per serving. Sweet potatoes will help you feel satiated while limiting your calorie intake.
  2. High Fiber Content
Sweet potatoes have lots of dietary fiber, the substance that aids in weight loss by lining your stomach with a gel-like mesh. It makes you feel satiated and restricts your overeating. Dietary fiber also prevents fat absorption and helps maintain good bowel movements.
  3. Antioxidant Property
Sweet potatoes have carotenoids and anthocyanins; phytochemicals that are antioxidants. This is what causes the sweet potatoes unique orange and purple coloring. The antioxidants help to protect your body from oxygen radicals which reduce your stress and inflammation levels that directly affect your weight loss.
  4. Good Carbohydrates We’ve been told over and over again that carbohydrates are bad. But they are not all bad. Sweet potatoes have good complex carbohydrates that are harder to digest than other carbs. This stops them from causing your blood glucose levels to spike.
