Eat Greens: An Instruction from DNA?

You have probably heard of the old adage that goes, “you are what you eat”. Well it turns out that the adage might be true on a much deeper level than you previously believe. It turns out that what your diet and what you eat is actually tightly interconnected with your DNA. Your DNA not only tells your body what it should be eating, but it is also able to be edited by the foods that you consume. Read on to learn more about how your DNA and your diet intersect.

Your DNA’s Instructions

The rise in popularity of DNA testing this last decade has helped to birth some new ideas concerning how DNA and your diet functions. It turns out that your DNA can tell your body exactly what nutrients it needs, and subsequently, what type of diet you should be maintaining. Now you can send your DNA results to services like DNAfit or Pathway FiT to get a printout on what foods your body responds to and how it will respond to them.

Your DNA Wants Green Veggies

Typically, your DNA is going to always want green veggies, because they have so many essential nutrients that your body needs to develop properly. Specifically, it needs greens to keep your DNA replicating properly. Your body actually uses the miRNA of green vegetables to protect the DNA and stop it from replicating potentially harmful mutations. Yes, basically, when you eat your green veggies, your body is better able to protect yourself form cancer and other diseases. When you eat processed foods, your DNA is not able to protect itself as well and will eventually begin to mutate. This is how you develop tumors and other signs of cancer, so listen to what your DNA is telling you to do.
