Diets That Help Maintain A Healthy Blood Sugar Level

Understanding and managing your blood sugar levels are extremely important for long term health. An unhealthy blood sugar level can lead to all manner of health problems like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Exceedingly high blood sugar levels can also result in your organs like the liver and pancreas having to work harder. Extra stress on your vital organs can have some extreme consequences, like the buildup of toxins in the blood or a decrease in neural functionality. The best way to manage your blood sugar levels is to avoid foods that are high in glucose, primarily carbohydrates.

Gluten Free Diet

A glucose-free diet is focused on eliminating the gluten protein from your diet. Most people choose to do this because they have some type of allergen to gluten. When they eat it, they become uncomfortable or develop stomach aches and the like. In the most extreme cases people develop celiac disease. Celiac disease is an auto immune condition where the person’s body actually rejects gluten. This can lead to major irritations and affect your quality of life. But even if you don’t have a gluten allergy or celiac disease, maintaining a gluten free diet can help you manage your glucose levels. Gluten is primarily found in foods laden with carbs like breads, so if you eliminate them, you will put less glucose in your diet and consequently have an easier time managing your blood sugar.

Mediterranean Diet

The Mediterranean diet is primarily composed of fresh fish, poultry, vegetables, whole breads, olive oil, and berries. It lacks a lot of the foods that contain glucose and have the ability to raise blood sugar levels. You may not associate Mediterranean food with a low glucose diet, because of the amount of pasta used in it. But if you work on eating whole grains, then you will be able to limit the amount of glucose you’re putting in your system. You’ll also get more benefits, as whole grains are packed with health benefits.
