Did You Know Your Diet Can Impact Your Memory?

Your diet affects everything about the quality of your life. Eating healthy can lower your risk of obtaining chronic diseases, like diabetes, heart disease, asthma, hypertension, etc. It also has the ability to prevent some of the scariest diseases, like those associated with memory. Alzheimer’s disease is at the top of this list. Not only can your diet help you stave off diseases, but it can even improve your memory. Below are some foods you can eat to help improve your memory over time:

Oil-based salad dressings

Oil based salad dressings, like a basil vinaigrette or an olive oil dressing are filled with significant amounts of vitamin E. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect your neurons and nerve cells. Alzheimer’s disease occurs in large part due to neurons in particular parts of the brains dying off. This leads to a cascade of subsequent events that result in cognitive decline.

Fish

Fatty fish, like mackerel, salmon, tuna, and sardines contain significant amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. These fatty acids are pretty essential for overall healthy brain and even play a role in hormone production.

Dark green leafy vegetables

Dark, leafy green vegetables are another great source of vitamin E and folate. Folates have the ability to reduce levels of the amino acid, homocysteine in the bloodstream. Surplus levels of homocysteine can cause nerve cells in the brain to die, which can affect your memory functionality.

Avocado

Avocado is another great source of vitamin E and folate. It also has a significant amount of fatty acids. These two substances work together to protect your brain, regulate your hormone levels, prevent the death of neurons and nerve cells, and overall improve your memory and cognitive functions.
