Detox to Improve Brain Health

Detoxing is a hot health trend these days. Wherever you look, it seems that people are mentioning and recommending that we detox ourselves via complicated detox plans. But detoxing is not so simple as drinking lemon infused water for a couple weeks. Read on to learn the ins and outs of detoxing and how to actually detox to improve your brain’s health.

What is Detoxing Exactly?

To start out, your concept of detox is most likely incorrect. Your body does not need you to detox itself, as its actually designed to do that all on its own. Physiologically speaking, detoxification is a standard and essential cellular function. All those liver detox plans are misleading in the sense that they make it seem like your liver isn’t naturally detoxifying itself.

Your body naturally eliminates debris via the use of various mechanisms, like, the genitourinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, sweat glands, and respiratory tract. It utilizes all your major organs, including, your skin, gallbladder kidneys, lungs liver, and brain.

How Detox Affects Your Brain

When you ingest inflammatory inducing compounds, like alcohol, tobacco, etc. your body’s natural detox systems can easily become overwhelmed and cause unhealthy metabolites to accumulate. This can cause neuroinflammation and harm your brain.

How to Detox to Improve Brain Health

Although your body detoxes itself naturally, your natural detoxifying systems can be overwhelmed because it requires so much energy to operate them. Your body needs a wide variety of nutrients to facilitate the detox process, meaning your major goal in detoxing is to provide the proper nutrients for your body to function.

This means you need to eat a diverse array of veggies and fruits. The diversity should include produce of different colors and types. Also include nuts, legumes, and foods with healthy fats like fish in your diet.
