Black Salt and its Benefits

Do you like salt, but are now wary of consuming too much for health reasons? Then it might be time to make the switch to black salt, also known as kaala namak. Black salt is a type of Indian volcanic rock salt that possesses a pink hue. Read on to learn why black salt is considered to be the healthy salt to eat.

Amazing alternative for common table salt

Table salt is great for improving the taste of your food. It even has the ability to help preserve your food over time. Regular plain white salt is so impressive that at one point, Roman soldiers were paid in salt. Its only real negative quality is that it is high in sodium. Too much sodium can lead to hypertension and related diseases like heart disease. Black salt gives you that salty taste you crave, but is less iodized and less processed, making it healthier than table salt.

Cures bloating and acidity

There are lots of reasons that your body can experience bloating: allergies, IBS, overeating, etc. Consuming black salt can cut down on the bloating and reduce the amount of excess stomach acid thanks to black salt’s alkaline properties. The minerals contained in black salt also reduce your acid reflux and the associated damage it causes.

May prevent muscle cramping and spasming

Black salt actually has pretty high levels of potassium. This mineral plays an important role in water retention and in regulating muscle functionality. Regularly consuming potassium can help majorly reduce cramps and spasms that you might experience as a result of working out extensively.

Reduces water retention

Consuming an excessive amount of sodium can skew your body’s ability to remove excess water. Since black salt contains much less sodium than common table salt, it doesn’t force the retention of water as much, which can cut down on some of the water weight you’re carrying.
