Are You Loading Up on Bacon as a Part of Your Keto Diet? Here’s What You Need to Know

Bacon – bacon – bacon, just saying its name is enough to summon the gods of hunger and cause a person’s mouth to begin to water and salivate. It is one of the top 5 foods that people find hard to resist. It basically has everything we as a species enjoy in our food: fat, grease, salt, and meat. As far as improving a meal goes, you can almost never go wrong by adding bacon to it. Bacon is such a popular food that there is even bacon flavored ice cream, bacon flavored maple syrup, and bacon candies. The world of bacon is just too vast to deny.

It is exactly this love for bacon that makes the keto diet so popular today (the keto diet actually has many health benefits that make it an effective weight loss diet and contribute to its popularity). There is finally a diet that works and encourages you to eat your favorite food.

How Does Keto Work?

The basic philosophy behind the ketogenic diet is that eliminating or drastically reducing a person’s carbohydrate intake will place their body in a state of ketosis. Ketosis causes your body to burn fat instead of blood glucose as a form of energy which results in weight loss.

That’s why bacon seems like it’s made for keto, and meals like bacon and eggs have become keto standards. The only thing to be careful of when eating bacon on a keto diet is that bacon doesn’t have the best fats. The keto diet is not made to be a permanent solution, eventually you will have to widen your diet and begin eating carbs again. At that point in time, you want to be eating the best fats, like saturated fats found in olive oil. If you get used to the bacon, you may not be able to quit when you stop practicing keto.
