Adolescent Obesity Leads to Increased Risk of Pancreatic Cancer in Adulthood

Pancreatic cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths in the world. It is the 6th most deadly cancer globally. It is the 12th most commonly occurring cancer in males and the 11th most commonly occurring cancer in females. In 2018 alone, 460,000 new cases arose. Recent studies have shown that there is a correlation between adolescent obesity and adult pancreatic cancer; your chance of developing pancreatic cancer can increase up to four times. Even having just slightly higher than normal weight ranges can increase your chances of developing cancer.

Due to the proclivity of developing this illness, it is important to monitor your weight in your adolescence through a healthy diet and exercise. If you’re already headed down the path towards obesity or just obese, then there are some simple dietary changes you can make to begin to counteract it:

Water

The benefit of drinking water cannot be overstated. Water is calorie free, and vital for overall health. Ensuring that you are properly saturated also prevents you from overeating and helps your digestive processes function efficiently.

Kale

Kale has a natural high fiber content which makes it a very filling ingredient. It also possesses high levels of calcium that can help reduce body fat.

Walnuts
Walnuts have the ability to reverse abdominal obesity. These nuts are also a great source of omega -3s which are valuable acids that can reduce symptoms caused by metabolic syndrome, a collection of metabolic conditions. They can improve insulin resistance and reduce inflation and heart disease factors in the body.

Chickpeas
Chickpeas and other legumes are essentially super foods. The biggest benefit for combating obesity is that legumes are high in protein and fiber. They can work to improve your metabolic rate and satiate you.
