Sweet murukku is one of the famous snacks in South India. It is known as manoharam in Tamilnadu and bellamkommulu in Andhra Pradesh. Rice flour is the main ingredient in this recipe. Rice is a staple food in most Asian countries. And it is for a good reason. Sweet murukku is a perfect school or after school snack for children. Adults can satisfy their mini hunger pangs in between meals too!

Ingredients

cups rice flour: 2

cup sugar powdered: 1/2

cup coconut milk extract: 1

pinches salt: 2

tbsp butter: 1

tbsp roasted urad dal powder: 4

oil enough to deep fry

How To Make Sweet Murukku Recipe

  • Mix all the ingredients well in a large bowl.
  • Add coconut milk and make a dough. Keep aside.
  • In a wok (kadhai), heat the oil.
  • Grease the insides of the murukku maker/sancha machine.
  • Pick a suitable mold for the design.
  • Place a portion of dough in a murukku maker.
  • Press spiral shaped fritters directly into hot oil.
  • You don’t have to make perfect shapes.
  • Keep adding the murukku dough in separate batches, not crowding the pan.
  • Cook on low flame until it is golden. Use a tissue paper to absorb excess oil.
  • You can store the snack for at least 3 - 4 weeks.
