Steamed clams

Steamed clams

It’s always convenient to have a delicious and easy to make seafood recipe on hand in case you end up having some clams with you. The steamed clams can be served as an appetizer over the main course or simply eaten on their own, this makes them incredibly versatile as a side-dish. Perhaps the more important ingredient without which they would feel incomplete is freshly minced garlic. The ingredients can be easily procured from any major grocery store without spending lots of money or time.

Health benefits

Clams are packed with protein and other healthy minerals such as zing, iron, magnesium, potassium and vitamins. What’s important is that they have low fat, which decreases the likelihood of damaging effects such as constrained blood vessels, cholesterol and weight gain.

What’s surprising about clams is the amount of iron in them. You could add in the iron content of t bone steaks and beef lived but even then would pale in comparison to those found in clams. Nine small neck clams contain about 24 milligrams of iron which more than exceeds the recommendation amount.

This makes it useful for women who are prone to anemia. These females can depend on clams to sustain their iron levels. Apart from iron, clams are an excellent source of selenium which plays a critical role in our cells, helping them combat the growth of cancer.
