Sev Mamra

Sev mamra is a fun Indian snack that is perfect for slow days, or when you find yourself hungry between meals. It is a mix of dry spicy ingredients that include puffed rice (the mamra), savory noodles (the sev) and peanuts. The snacks vary from region to region according to the spices and extra additives that you include. Some popular spices and additives to use are capsicum, onions, and even pickled mangoes.

Ingredients

sev: 1 cup

puffed rice : 4 cups

oil: 1 tbsp

curry leaves: 7 – 8

turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp

chilli powder: 1/4 tsp

salt to taste

How To Make Sev Mamra

  • Heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan.
    • Add the curry leaves, chilli powder, and turmeric powder.
  • Mix well and sauté at a medium temperature for 10 seconds. While stirring
  • Add the puffed rice and salt.
  • Mix well.
  • Cook on a slow flame for 10 minutes, while stirring continuously.
  • Add the sev, mix well and cook on a slow flame for 2 minutes, while stirring
  • Cool completely and store inside an air-tight container

Trivia

Although sev is made using healthy ingredients, the health properties are negated by the frying process.
