Dosa is a classic pancake made of rice. It is a thin lentil crepe from South India that enjoys massive popularity all over the world! There are many varieties of dosas. It is popularly served as breakfast or any meal at street food centers, fast food restaurants and even at the five-star hotels. Most people like to have their dosa crispy and a few enjoy it soft.   1. Rice is one of the main ingredients used for making set dosa. It is an important source of carbohydrates that provide energy for the body. It also helps with normal brain functions. When carbohydrates get metabolized, they become usable energy.

Ingredients

fenugreek seeds: 1½ tsp

salt to taste

flattened rice: 1 ½ cup

black gram: ½ cup

oil as needed

dosa rice or ponni rice: 2 cups

How To Make Set Dosa Recipe

  1. Start by heating up the pan. Then gently beat the mixture into a batter. The batter must be neither thin nor thick.
  2. Take a ladle full of the batter and then spread it on the pan in a circular movement. Apply some oil to the edges of the pan.
  3. Cover the pan for 10-20 seconds. Let the mix cook.
  4. Then flip the dosa and leave it to cook for 5-10 seconds.
  5. If you want your dosa crispy, reduce the flame and let it cook for another 10-15 seconds.
  6. Add some Spice powder. You can serve it hot and with some tasty chutney.

Fermenting the Batter for Set Dosa:

  1. Take rice, Split black gram and fenugreek seeds in a container. Rinse well and soak it in good water for 4 - 5 hours.
  2. Rinse and soak 1 or 1 1/2 cup flattened rice for 30 minutes.
  3. Drain and pour all the soaked ingredients like rice, dal and beaten rice into the wet grinder.
  4. Pour the batter into a large container, close the lid and rest it for 7 - 8 hours in a warm place for fermentation.
