Microwave Sambar

Microwave sambar is the perfect solution for people who love sambar but don’t have all the time in the world to cook sambar the old fashioned way. Do not worry – this sambar is just as delicious as any other sambar you’ve made. It is just much more efficient. All you really need are the ingredients, some microwave safe dishes, and a microwave of course.  The ingredients are simple and easy to find, so you will have no problem making this.

The primary ingredient that defines any sambhar are lentils, a group of edible seeds or pulses from the legume family. They are also a great source of non-meat based protein. This makes it fantastic for vegetarians and vegans, people who risk becoming protein deficient. Ingredients

cup arhar dal: 1

tsp salt: 2

1 tbsp sugar

2-3 tbsp sambar masala

6-8 small whole onions – peeled

2 tsp mustard seeds

10 -15 curry leaves

2-3 whole red chilies

1 tbsp oil

1 tsp tamarind pulp coriander

How To Make Microwave Sambhar

  • Soak the arhar ki dal for ½ hr in 2 cups of boiling water.
    • Add salt and onions.
    • Cook covered at high temperature for 5 minutes.
    • Stir and cook again at 70% for 10 minutes.
  • Mash or blend the dal into a pulp.
  • Mix in the sambhar masala and sugar.
  • Mix the oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves, and red chilies together in another dish.
  • Cook covered at a high temperature for 3 minutes.
  • Add the dal mixture with 2 cups of boiling water.
    • Cook covered at 70%.
    • Stir once.
  • Mix in the tamarind.
    • Cook covered at 30% for 5 minutes.
  • Serve garnished with coriander leaves.
