Ingredients

fish in one piece. The fish should preferably be a pomfret, or any other larger fish. Moreover, it should be cleaned and scaled, but the skin should be kept intact: 1 kg

teaspoon of lemon juice: 2

tablespoon of roasted carom seeds: 1

tablespoon of chopped ginger: 1

tablespoon of chopped garlic: 1

teaspoon of turmeric: 1/2

teaspoon of chili powder: 1

teaspoon of salt: 2

green chilies: 3

cup of mustard oil: 1 1/4

chaat masala and lemon juice for garnishing

How To Make Machchli Masala

  1. Make vertical slits across the fish and go deep inside the fish, along the bone. Don’t let the cut go on the opposite side of the bone, and create pocket-sized cuts.
  2. Repeat the procedure on the other side of the bone as well, and finish until you have the same pocket-like cuts on both sides of the fish.
  3. Apply lemon juice and salt on the fish. Remember to go inside out.
  4. Leave the sauce on the fish for about 15 minutes, before washing it off.
  5. Drain the fish now, and wipe it dry.
  6. Now, apply ground paste over the fish. And, heat oil over a pan.
  7. Toss the fish into the pan and let it heat until it gets brown.
  8. Cover the pan now and let the fish cook now for 15 minutes.
  9. Transfer the fish to a tray now, and garnish it with chaat masala and lemon juice.
