How To Make Horseshoe Sandwich

  • Take a large bowl, mix minced beef, egg, chopped onion, chopped garlic, salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce until they are well-blended
  • Make 6 equal sized patties of about 4 inches wide
  • Now grill the patties on an oiled barbeque grill until they turn brown from the inside
  • Once you are done cooking the beef patties, deep-fry the French fries in preheated oil
  • Lightly toast the bread to give them a light golden color and a crispy touch
  • Prepare the sauce by melting the butter in a heavy saucepan, gradually stir in the flour
  • Make sure no flour lumps are formed
  • Pour down 4 cups of milk while gradually stirring in the mixture
  • Stir and cook this mixture until a thick paste is formed
  • Transfer the batter into a microwave-friendly bowl and whisk in the evaporated milk until smooth
  • Add the cheese and microwave for 6 minutes
  • Add Worcestershire and hot pepper sauce and thoroughly beat the mixture, until a thick smooth sauce is formed
  • Place the bread pieces in a long tray, put beef patty on top of each bread slice
  • Top them with fries and pour down the sauce, all over the sandwich

Trivia

The first horseshoe sandwich got its name because the meat that was used in preparing it was in the shape of a horse shoe.
