Ingredients

lb lamb meat — cubed: 1

tsp black pepper — ground: 1 1/2

tbsp ground turmeric: 1

tsp cinnamon — ground: 1

tsp ginger — ground: 1/4

tbsp margarine: 2

tsp cayenne pepper — ground: 1/4

onion — chopped: 1

red onion — chopped: 1

cup celery — chopped: 3/4

oz tomatoes — diced: 29

cup fresh cilantro — chopped: 1/2

cups water: 7

oz garbanzo beans — drained: 15

lemon — juiced: 1

cup green lentils: 3/4

eggs — beaten: 2

oz vermicelli pasta: 4

How To Make Harira

  • Add the turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper, ginger, butter, cayenne, celery, cilantro, and onion to the lamb in a soup pot.
  • Cook on a low flame for 5 minutes while stirring.
  • Pour the tomato juice and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Add water, and lentils. Allow it to boil and lower the heat to simmer with the lid covered for 2 hours.
  • Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the noodles and chickpeas.
  • Cook for 10 more minutes until the noodles are done. Add the eggs and lemon while stirring. Allow the eggs to cook for a minute and serve hot.
