Guava Chutney

Guava chutney or Amrood Chutney is a conventional Indian recipe, which is cooked in different ways across different cities in the country. With many variations existing as a part of regional cuisine, a simple dish like chutney can be prepared in many different ways and each altered taste is delicious in its own way. This chutney is prepared from a typical guava which is abundantly available throughout the country. The combination of sweetness and tanginess in the right dose is what makes this chutney stand apart from the rest of the chutney dishes. Guava has always been considered a humble fruit, and one of the best ways to consume it apart from as is, which tastes great, is in the form of chutney.

Ingredients

raw guavas: 2

tsp powdered fenugreek : 1/2

tsp mustard seeds: 1/2

tsp powdered Red chili : 1 1/2

red chilis: 4

tsp cumin : 1/2

tsp urad dhal: 1/2

pinch of asafetida

tsp powdered turmeric : 1

tsp powdered mustard : 1

tsp lemon juice: 1

tsp oil: 2

salt to taste

How To Make Guava Chutney

  • Wash the raw guavas thoroughly and cut them into tiny pieces without removing the seeds and set aside.
  • To a bowl, add powdered red chili, powdered mustard, powdered turmeric, powdered fenugreek, salt, and cut guava, lemon juice and mix all of them together.
  • Heat oil in a small pan and add Mustard seeds. As they begin to splutter, add cumin seeds, red chilis, urad dhal and a pinch of asafetida.
  • Add the tempered mustard seeds to the guava chutney and mix
