Chilli Paneer Dry

Chilli paneer is an Indo-Chinese crowd pleaser, and can be served both as an appetizer and a main course. True to its name, chilli paneeris a tantalizing dry dish combining fried paneer with a delicious mixture of chilli and other spices sure to delight the taste buds.

Ingredients

cubed paneer: 200 g

large onion – peeled and cubed: 1

large bell pepper - cubed: 1

large garlic cloves – chopped finely: 6

ginger pieces – chopped finely: 2 cm

green chilli peppers – cut in diagonals: 3

Sugar: 1 tsp

ajinomoto: 1 pinch

ketchup: 2 tbsp

red chilli sauce: 1 tbsp

green chilli sauce: 1 tbsp

soy sauce: 2 tsp

vinegar: 2 tsp

chilli powder: 2 tbsp

handful of spring onion – finely chopped: 1

salt to taste

all purpose flour or maida: 3 tbsp

corn starch: 6 tbsp

oil: 4 tbsp

Sugar: ½ tsp

pepper powder: 2 tsp

soy sauce: 1 tsp

Water as needed

salt to taste

How To Make Chilli Paneer Dry

  1. Heat oil in a pan.
  2. Mix all frying ingredients in a bowl, and add water until mixture is a thin batter.
  3. Dip paneer in the batter, and fry until it is a golden brown.
  4. Remove fried paneer and let it sit on a plate.
  5. Mix all sauces in their own bowl, and set aside.
  6. Add ginger, garlic, and chilli to the remaining oil.

Note: You can add a tsp more oil if there is none left.

  1. Sauté for 1 minute.
  2. Add bell pepper and onions, and sauté until cooked through.
  3. Add salt and sugar, then mix well.
  4. Combine sauce mixture and chilli powder with the rest, and stir thoroughly.
  5. Allow everything to cook together for 3-5 minutes.
  6. Pour in fried paneer and toss.
  7. Fold in spring onion.
  8. Remove from heat and serve with fried rice or noodles.

 Trivia

When using store bought paneer, you may find that the texture isn’t as soft as you would like. You can solve this problem by soaking it for about 10 minutes in hot water and lemon juice.
