Ingredients

cups all-purpose flour: 2

cup buttermilk (cold): 3/4

tbsp buttermilk (for brushing): 2

tbsp unsalted butter, refrigerated and cut into slices: 8

tsp salt: 1

tsp baking powder: 2

tsp baking soda: 1/4

How To Make Buttermilk Biscuits

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 °F.
  2. Line your oven traywith parchment paper or silicone baking sheet.
  3. In a large bowl, combine all the dry ingredients. (flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt).
  4. Add the butter into the flour mixture and mix well until the mixture looks like rough crumbs. Use a pastry blender for 5 minutes and you will see a rough dough consistency.
  5. Make a hole or well in the center of the flour mixture and pour the buttermilk. Stir this mixture well until fully combined.
  6. Dust some flouron a clean surface and put the dough on it and make a rectangular shape of the dough.
  7. Make thirds out of the rectangular dough and flatten it.
  8. Roll the dough out to the surface and make it ½ thick.
  9. Make 12 biscuits using a round biscuit or cookie cutter of diameter 2 ½ cm.
  10. Place these biscuits on the baking tray and indent each biscuit by pressing it on the center with your thumb.
  11. Brush the tops with buttermilk.
  12. Bake for 12-15 minutes.
  13. Remove from the oven when done and let them stand for 5 minutes.
  14. Serve and enjoy!
