Anzac Biscuits are a traditional delicacy from New Zealand and Australia. They have been associated with the ANZAC Day to commemorate the Gallipoli landings that took place during the First World War. Anzac Biscuits are crafted from flour, rolled oats, butter, sugar, baking soda, water, and coconut.

Perfectly made Anzac Biscuits are known to be crispy on the outer surface and incredibly chewy in the middle.

Ingredients

cup flour: 1

cup quick cooking oats: 1

cup coconut (flaked): 3/4

cup white sugar: 1

tsp baking soda: 1

tbsp golden syrup: 2

tbsp boiling water: 2

cup butter: 1/2

How To Make Anzac Biscuits

  • Add the flour, oats, coconut, and sugar in a bowl. Mix them well.
  • Melt butter and the syrup in a saucepan keeping the heat low. Mix boiling water and soda well and add to saucepan.
  • Add the butter mix to the flour in the bowl, mix well and use teaspoons to drop in greased baking sheets.
  • Bake them at 175°C for about 20 minutes.
  • Store the biscuits in an airtight container so they last for a longer time. If you don’t like your biscuits very crunchy and prefer it chewy, don’t bake them for long.

Anzac Biscuits are iconic in that it is believed that they were once made to be sent to the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs) who were serving in Gallipoli. April 25 is a day of national importance in that it commemorates the day when New Zealand and Australian forces undertook a major military operation during the First World War.
