Are You a Coffee Person? Here’s What You Need to Know

Coffee is one of those substances that has literally altered the world, much like tea. The need for caffeine is extreme indeed; some people can’t even get to work without a cup of joe in the day. In the spirit of the global love for coffee, here are 5 facts about coffee that you should know:

  1. Caffeine Can be Fatal
Caffeine’s positive benefits are pretty well known already. It gives you energy, boosts your metabolism, affects your appetite, and even functions as a pain killer. But, as great as caffeine is, if you take too much of it, it can actually turn lethal. Of course, to reach this level, you will have to drink between 80-100 cups of coffee in succession.
  2. Caffeine May Boost the Female Libido
Recent studies involving lab rats, has shown that taking caffeine in moderate amounts can have a positive effect on the libido. This has only been shown to be effective for people who do not regularly drink coffee.
  3. Caffeine Reduces Pain
Caffeine has also been shown to be a natural pain reliever. If you drink the caffeine equivalent of 2 cups of coffee, you can effectively reduce your post gym workout muscle pain. Drinking coffee can even reduce the neck and shoulder pain you experience from sitting at a desk all day.
  4. Decaf Coffee Still Contains Caffeine!
People switch to decaf because they enjoy the taste of coffee but don’t want the caffeine for some reason. But, despite its name, decaf still contains caffeine. It has about 1/5 the amount as regular coffee, so if you prefer decaf, make sure not to overdo it.
  5. Caffeine is NOT Bitter
It is understandable that you might suspect caffeine to be the reason that your coffee is bitter. But that is not the case; coffee’s unique bitter taste is caused by coffee’s antioxidant content. Yes, the bitter taste is what healthiness tastes like.
