Sprouts Chaat

People tend to choose street food when they get tired of regular food. While street food is not entirely harmless, it depends on how they are prepared. Hygiene, fresh ingredients, and the place must be considered while opting to eat outside. However, whenever possible take time to prepare food at home, eat together as a family or invite your friends. There’s always joy in preparing special meals at home. One of the easiest and healthiest snacks you prepare is sprouts chaat. It is highly nutritious because the main ingredients are sprouted mung beans or green grams and are combined with other power packed ingredients. Hence without a doubt, sprouts chaat is a perfect snack, and you can even have it for supper.

Mung beans are packed with potassium, magnesium, folate, fiber, and vitamin B6.

Onions contain phytochemicals that can remove free radicals. It can reduce the risk of developing gastric ulcers. According to the National Onion Association, the chromium and sulfur in onions can help in regulating blood sugar and increase insulin production.

Ingredients

cup mung beans sprouts: 1

tbsp chopped onions: 2

tbsp chopped tomatoes: 1

tsp chopped green chilies: 1/2

tsp chaat masala: 1

salt to taste

tbsp peanuts: 1

tbsp tamarind chutney: 1

1 tbsp green chutney

1 tbsp lemon juice

¼ cup coriander leaves

¼ cup sev (small crunchy noodles)

How To Make Sprouts Chaat

  • Rinse the sprouted beans in water.
  • Steam the sprouts or boil them until they are completely cooked.
  • You can even keep the sprouts half cooked if you want a crunchy
  • Strain the cooked sprouts well.
  • In a wok, add peanuts. Roast them till they partially turn brown. Sauté them continuously to avoid the burnt
  • Transfer them to a plate.
  • In a separate bowl, add boiled sprouted mung beans.
  • Add chopped onions, tomatoes, green
  • Add chaat masala, salt (as required) and roasted peanuts.
  • Mix the entire mixture well.
  • Add tamarind chutney, green chutney as the per the taste and mix it well.
  • Finally, add lemon juice to the mixture.
  • Garnish the chaat with coriander leaves.
  • Sprinkle some sev to the mixture.
  • Serve it Otherwise, sev becomes soggy, and you won’t have the crunchy taste.

Trivia

Mung beans are known by many names, including green gram, lutou, look dou, moyashimame, and oorud.  It was first grown in the U.S. in the late 19th century as a livestock feed.
