Sinfully Delicious Chocolate Mousse

Mousse stands for foam in French. Often touted as a dessert that involves much technique, making chocolate mousse for the first time might sound daunting. But do not despair! This recipe can teach you how to make a chocolate mousse that tastes straight out of an exotic French restaurant!

Ingredients

dark chocolate: 225g

eggs (preferably free-range): 5

caster sugar: 100g

unsalted butter: 170g

Few cherries

Cocoa powder: 1 tsp

How To Make Sinfully Delicious Chocolate Mousse

  1. Add chocolate and butter in a bow and place it inside a pan of simmering water until the chocolate melts and let cool. 
    Note: Ensure that water doesn’t get into the bowl.
  2. Separate egg yolks and egg whites.
  3. Add caster sugar to egg whites and whisk well to a soft peak. Remember to keep a small portion of sugar for later.
  4. Combine egg yolk with melted butter-and-chocolate mixture, whisk well and transfer to tea cups. This is chocolate mousse.
  5. Add the other portion of sugar to egg whites and whisk well until soft and fluffy.
  6. Plop sweetened egg white on chocolate mousse and place a cherry on top of each teach cup for extra effect!
  7. Serve chocolate mousse chilled.

National chocolate mousse day is celebrated on the 3rd of April.

Mousse was originally served as a savory dish until early 19th century. In 1894, a French Artist, Toulouse Lautrec, came up with the idea of mixing chocolate with mousse, and thus chocolate mousse was born.

Chocolate mousse was originally termed mayonnaise de chocolat (chocolate mayonnaise) by its creator.
