Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin Pie

A pie is a baked dish that is made using a casing of pastry dough, which contains a filling of different sweet/savory items. Pies differ thanks to the type of crust used, with filled pie, top-crust pie, two-crust pie and shortcrust pastry a few of its different forms. Pies can vary in size as well, with some being just a biteful and others being made for multiple servings.

Pies are some of the most famous bakery items around the world, and an even more popular dessert choice among the masses. And this is where the pumpkin pie is so famous, for it is as loved for the occasion for which it is made as it is for its taste. As the name suggests, a pumpkin pie is a pie with a pumpkin-based custard filling. Pumpkin is considered a symbol of the harvesting period and is usually consumed during the fall and winter. It is also a popular Thanksgiving dessert in USA and Canada.

While the pumpkin pie originated in England, it has traversed the world in its popularity, and it is often joked in the west that every household has its own recipe of a pumpkin pie. With this in mind, here is a look at how to prepare this dessert dish.

tsp of salt: 1/2

tsp of cinnamon: 2

tsp of ground ginger: 1

tsp of ground nutmeg: 1/4

tsp of ground cloves: 1/4

tsp of ground cardamom: 1/8

tsp of lemon zest: 1/2

can of pumpkin purée: 1 1/5

cup of heavy cream: 1 1/2

How To Make Pumpkin Pie

  1. First up, keep the oven preheated at 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Beat the eggs in a largish bowl, and mix with brown sugar, white sugar, salt and spices (cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cloves, nutmeg, cardamom and lemon zest). Add in the pumpkin puree and stir this mixture until well mixed.
  2. Pour this resultant filling into a pie shell that is uncooked and bake in the oven at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for around quarter of an hour, after which you should lower the temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and let it bake for another 50 minutes. Insert a knife into the pie, and if the knife does not come out clean, heat until this happens. Remember to put foil around the edges of the pie shell around halfway into heating so the crust does not become extra brown.
  3. Once the knife comes out clean, remove the pie and let it cool for some time. Point to remember that when pulled out of the oven, the pie will appear puffed up, and this is nothing to worry as it will deflate as it cools. Once cooled, apply whipped cream if you wish to and serve.

Trivia
