South India is famous for a lot of things but one thing makes it unique is its culinary art. These states are also extremely famous for their pickles. If you ever visit Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, which were one state before, you will find a variety of pickles made from fruits, vegetables, and even meat! Drumstick, also known as moringa, was quite unheard in most countries until the Indian texts surfaced, revealing its health benefits. Unlike other vegetables, drumsticks grow on a tree, and they are long, slender, cylindrical pods.  Drumstick pickle is very easy to prepare and is the perfect combination for any rice meal.

Health benefits

Drumsticks or Moringa Oleifera is very nutritious, rich in antioxidants, may lower blood sugar levels, may reduce inflammation, and can also lower cholesterol.

Drumstick also has high levels of vitamin C, which helps in boosting the immune levels and eliminate the harmful free radicals from the body. Both leaves and pods are loaded with vitamin B complex (such as niacin, riboflavin, folic acid, and pyridoxine).

Ingredients

drumstick – cut into 1 ½ inch long pieces.: 1

cups – chopped tomatoes: 2 1/2

tbsp red chili powder: 4 1/2

tsp – fenugreek seeds: 2

tsp - turmeric: 1/4

tsp – tamarind paste: 1

sprig – curry leaves: 1

tsp – mustard seeds: 1/4

red chili: 1

tsp – chana dal/yellow gram: 1/2

tsp – urad dal/split black gram: 1/2

salt to taste

oil as needed

How To Make Drumstick Pickle Recipe

  • In a pan, dry roast fenugreek seeds and make a fine powder.
  • Deep fry drumsticks till it is cooked.
  • In the same pan, add oil, tomatoes, turmeric powder and salt.
  • Fry the tomatoes till they become soft.
  • Add the fried drumsticks and cook it until drumsticks are completely cooked to keep the raw smell away.
  • Add tamarind paste, chili powder, fenugreek powder and mix it
  • Add salt and spices according to your taste.
  • In a pan, add oil on low flame for tempering.
  • Add mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal, red chili, and curry leaves. Saute it.
  • Pour the hot tempering over the pickle.
  • Spicy and yummy drumstick pickle is ready and must be stored in an airtight

Moringa grows in the wild or is cultivated in Central America and the Caribbean, northern countries of South America, Africa, Southeast Asia and various countries of Oceania.
