Bread Vada

The Indian vada is powerfully connected with Indian cuisine culture. It is one of the most common breakfast foods found on the Indian person’s table in the morning. Vadas are essentially fried dough that is very similar to a doughnut or fritter. They are made out of all kinds of different ingredients, including legumes, potatoes, and sago. This recipe uses bread to make the fun to eat bread vada.

Ingredients

bread slices: 6

cup curd / yogurt: 3/4

cup rice flour: 1/2

cup suji / Bombay rava / semolina: 1/4

tsp cumin: 1/2

onion – finely chopped: 1/2

in ginger – finely chopped: 1

a few coriander leaves – chopped

curry leaves: 5

green chilies – chopped: 2

salt to taste

Oil for deep frying

How To Make Bread Vada

  • Crumble 6 slices of any bread and crumble them into small pieces in a large mixing bowl.
    • Add salt, coriander leaves, curry leaves, rice flour, rava, curd, cumin seeds, onion, and ginger.
    • Mix the ingredients to form a soft dough.
    • Note: You can add 1 to 2 tsp of curd to make the dough smooth if you feel it is dry.
  • Roll the dough into a small ball and gently press to flatten.
  • Slowly create a hole in the center like when you prepare medu vada.
  • Deep fry the vadas slowly at a medium temperature.
  • Fry on both sides till they turn golden brown.
    • Remove the excess oil by draining the vadas on a paper towel.
  • Serve hot vada with sambar or chutney and enjoy!

Trivia

Vadas are best eaten while fresh out of the fryer.
