Aloo Raita

Aloo raita, is a combination dish composed of curd, green chilli, and boiled potatoes. Raita itself is an Indian side dish made of chopped cucumbers, yoghurt, and spices. Aloo is what potatoes are referred to as in Indian cuisine. The dish is garnished with sliced coriander. This particular raita is rather luscious and can be eaten with dal, curries, or rice.

The main ingredient of aloo raita is the potato, which is proven to help control diabetes, fight cancer, and improve bone strength. Potatoes do not contain cholesterol and as such prevent inflammation and heart diseases. They are also a good supply of essential vitamins and nutrients:

Ingredients

curd: 2 cups

potatoes – boiled, pared, and cubed: 2

A handful of coriander leaves

cumin powder: 1 tbsp

green chilies--chopped: 1

Red chili Powder: 1/4 tsp

sweet chutney: 1 tsp

How To Make Aloo Raita

  1. Beat the curd or yoghurt in a basin until it’s thick and even.
  2. Add green chilli, powdered red chilli, cumin powder, and salt.
  3. Add the cubes of potato and gently stir so that the cubes don’t break.
  4. Garnish the resulting combination with the remaining red chilli, cumin powders,
    green chilli, and coriander leaves.
  5. Serve your aloo raita cold or chilled with, rice or naan and dal.
    Note: Naan is leavened bread usually in the shape of a teardrop baked in a tandoor, an Indian clay oven.
  6. Pour in sweet chutney, to add a novel twist to your procedure. You can temporarily preserve your aloo raita in a stainless steel Vaya Tyffyn lunchbox where you can easily retrieve it when you are ready to eat.
